Apologies for the late post this week; there has been a fair bit of chaos between my move and a number of technology/connectivity issues. This week, I am at one of CHAM’s institutions, Daeyang University. I had great hope for this visit, spending a week with the Dean, observing, and seeing how I can support their efforts. However, very little guidance was provided to the Dean on how I can support her, so I’ve found myself promised several meetings that never happened. I’ve also spent a lot of time hand scoring multiple choice exams. The highlight so far was observing nursing student teaching presentations. One group of students did a presentation on healthy eating, and I learned that in Malawi there are 6 food groups:
1. Proteins and dairy products
2. Legumes
3. Staple food
4. Fruits
5. Vegetables
6. Fats and oils
There don’t seem to be any guidelines for how much from each group one should eat, just that every day should include something from each group.
As I said, I’ve moved into my new place, where the power goes out daily. Each day when I return from work I have to go to the electrical panel, flip a bunch of switches, click my heels together three times, and pray for power. There is definitely something wrong with the panel, which I believe poses a safety hazard. I have reported this, and hope it will get fixed soon. I am eating food from the fridge that cools and warms every day.
On Friday, I head to Thyolo tea estates, where I will run a 10k charity race. I am looking forward to the change of scenery and pleasant accommodations. I’ll report back on the run, but in the meantime, more photos are below. I am really enjoying the signage here. With respect to the last photo, (first bullet point) recall that the letters ‘r’ and ‘l’ are interchangeable 😊

Hello Bella:
Sounds like the disorganization collectly continues... I am hopeful they put together a plan for you soon. I agree with Debbie, I hope they figure out how to make better use of your skills and talents.
In the meantime enjoy your run, and being in a different scenery and nicer accommodations.
I look forward to your posts and hearing what is going on in your world.
Be safe with the electrical issues in your new place.
Big hug.
JoAnn
Well, "Dorothy", good luck with your "heel clicking". It's supposed to be magic, right? I certainly hope you get your electrical problem straightened out quickly! Be careful with the food you buy and consume. There are enough tropical disease possibilities without adding food poisoning to the list. I think you should purchase some of Dr. Kagwa's special cream. It sounds the answer to several maladies!!
I hope they will start making better use of your skills and talents soon. Good luck in your race and enjoy your time in perhaps better lodgings. I'm enjoy your posts and hope I am reading them "collectly".
Keep us posted, Debbie
Hey, if Dr Kagwa can help us win the lottery, it’s worth a shot. We don’t need anything else from his magic potions, thankfully 😅
